The LA interior designer shares some of her secrets

By Jon Sharpe, Chief Creative Officer

Ten years ago, LA interior designer Jenn Feldman’s career trajectory was set when in 2007 designer Nate Berkus chose her as the winner of Oprah Winfrey’s first ever interior design contest. In the decade since, the designer has been busy creating colourful and interesting projects in Los Angeles’ distinguished areas.

Introducing her style to LuxDeco for the first time, the designer answers some quick-fire questions.

Q: How would you describe your style?

I would describe our style as modern traditionalists. We love the baseline of our projects to be streamlined and classic, keeping clean lines and structured silhouettes, but we infuse colour and texture into all the art and finishing accessories to make our spaces really pop!

Q: What/who do you consider your ultimate design inspiration?

Instagram! We are constantly amazed at the impact of the visual references and decor inspirations we find on a daily basis. It’s an incredible tool and there’s something new every day to inspire you.

Q: What’s one thing you always do in a room?

Add books.

Q: What’s one thing you never do?

Even numbered pillows on a sofa.

Q: Which is a home’s most important feature?

The entry hall… it really sets the tone for how a house feels and what’s inside. I love the impact a small space can have by using a wallpaper with an oversized pattern, a tall mirror on the wall, and the right lighting layered in. It’s the perfect way to greet you and welcome you into a home.

Q: If you could design any project, what would it be?

A brownstone in London so I’d have to live there for a little while!

Q: Which trends are exciting you at the moment?

Fabric collections that have amazing texture, mud cloths creatively used in modern furniture silhouettes… and marble wallpapers and accessories. We can’t get enough!
