LFW 2017: Incorporating catwalk design trends in your home interior

Mary Katrantzou looked to Walt Disney’s 1940s film Fantasia to inspire her Autumn/Winter 2017 ready-to-wear collection. Taking her penchant for kaleidoscopic prints to a new level, the Greek London-based designer manipulated cells from the film, incorporating them into cocktail dresses and velvet suits. Exquisite teal and burgundy tones stood out for us. Add them to your interior along with unique, unexpected objects to channel her fantastical look.

Throwing back to retro American gasoline girls, House of Holland’s models stalked the runway in checkerboard prints, cowboy boots and fringing. Naturally, designer Henry Holland gave red, white and blue hues a large part to play in the collection’s stateside-inspired palette. But – mirroring the two hottest colours spotted at MAISON&OBJET 2017 – soft pinks and green hues also peppered the colour scheme. Black and white mohair knits add monochrome impact into the nostalgic mix.

Versace furniture’s sister line, Versus, brought an androgynous edge to the catwalk. A pack of models led by fashion’s most influential sister act – Gigi and Bella Hadid – were clad in leather and shearling pieces, wrap-over skirts, mini dresses and cropped trousers, all working a military meets futuristic feel. Slick black and deep electric blue hues were prominent. Blend these tones at home to emulate Donatella's autumn/winter vibes.

Set on a ski-resort-style scene constructed of sharp triangular peaks, Anya Hindmarch’s collection was brimming with colours and textures. Furry touches enhanced capes, collared jackets, shoes, handbags, as well as the heads of the models, creating a super-sumptuous aesthetic. Folk motifs brought detail to the pieces, which appeared in just about every colour of the rainbow. Think cool blue, fuchsia pink and warm orange tones, to name just a few.

Strong yet feminine, Erdem’s storied Autumn/Winter ’17 looks transported us to a world of Ottoman elegance. Designer Erdem Moralioglu drew on his father’s Turkish roots, referencing regal Turkish costumes and Ottoman manuscript patterns, which were printed on his designs. As usual, detailed craftsmanship and rich textiles were constants in the collection, while turmeric yellow hues added to the Eastern ambience. Get the look at home with burnished yellows and velvets.

Christopher Kane’s show was one of contrasts. From peachy damask prints to taffeta dresses in blues and violets, the Scottish designer experimented with historical patterns and materials, then fast-forwarded our thoughts to futuristic realms with holographic-like dresses. Grey knitted cardigans and iridescent dresses mixed sleek and soft textures. Put Kane’s twist on your space with metallic hues and slinky materials.
