Directional
Forgo the basic restaurant look for something a little more artistic by taking a directional approach to tableware. (Trust us, the resulting plate art will be nothing but dramatic and oh-so-professional.)
This season, Marie Daâge’s painterly plates transform the dinnerware world by combining intense colours with modern gilding and asymmetric designs. Combine their unusual aesthetic with hammered textures, contemporary gold flatware and a perfectly imperfect centrepiece of sculptural blooms or foliage in deep wintery hues.
Natural
Michael Aram’s turn to nature for his new Wheat collection has inspired new thinking on its refinement. Too often thought of as a humble crop, wheat is rich in symbolism with connotations of prosperity and abundance and was a favourite motif of Coco Chanel who channelled it in her own interiors with her iconic wheat sheaf table and in her jewellery designs (which have coincidentally been revived this year).
The look is perfect for an autumn-turning-to-winter aesthetic and suits the rustic tones of the season’s turning foliage. A menu of colourful winter vegetables, comforting pies and artisan breads and cheeses is just the thing.
Palatial
The festive entertaining circuit deserves a little opulence and that look is no better created than with all the splendour of a decadent palace, all frosted in wintery crystal and silver touches.
L’Objet’s Fortuny collection offers the most elaborate of foundations. Team its iconic textile-inspired patterns designed by the legendary Mariano Fortuny with jewel-encrusted napkin rings, decorative silverware and opulent table linens. An arrangement of silver oversized ginger jars on a nearby sideboard harmonise the look with the rest of your decor.
